SEDATION DENTISTRY
Do you have overwhelming fear of dental appointments? You aren’t alone as there are millions of people around the world who avoid dental appointments fearing drill-wielding dentists causing them pain and discomfort. This often leads to poor oral health and dental problems going unnoticed till they take a serious turn. At Rite Smile Dental, Dr. Kaur and her team understand the anxiety people have about dental appointments and hence we always focus on making our patients comfortable during appointments with Sedation Dentistry.
What is Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry is the processes of using medication that help patients relax during the procedure. There are variety of medications that we use during the procedure to calm down your nerves and reduce the feeling of pain and sensation. Patients relax thanks to the use of medication and this is why it is often termed as ‘sleep dentistry’ though you don’t really sleep during the procedure.
What are The Benefits of Sedation Dentistry?
- Overcome fear or anxiety during the procedure
- Feel comfortable and relaxed during the procedure
- Ease of treatment and minimum appointments
What Does The Procedure Involve?
There are several sedation medications that are applied during the procedure and in most cases Dr. Kaur uses nitrous oxide popularly called as ‘laughing gas’ which makes you feel comfortable during the procedures. Sense of feeling light-headed or tingling feeling in your arms and legs is common when this medication is used. This gas is applied using a mask and the effects of the medication wears off once the mask is removed with no side-effects.
Dr. Kaur would weigh in the need for sedation dentistry based on the procedure to be performed and the level of sedation to be used during the procedure.
